Republic day rehearsal in Delhi: traffic police issue advisory, avoid these routes
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a special traffic advisory in preparation for the Republic Day Parade. Traffic will be strictly restricted on certain major roads and intersections from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm on January 17, 19, 20, and 21, 2026, during the rehearsal on the Line of Duty.
During this time, the crossings at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Mansingh Road, and C-Hexagon on Kartavya Path will be closed. Additionally, the entire Kartavya Path stretch from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will be closed to the public. This could cause traffic jams on surrounding roads. Delhi Police has appealed to commuters to plan their travels in advance, exercise patience, and follow the instructions of traffic police officers on site.
Alternative routes have been suggested for motorists traveling from north to south or south to north. Travelers can use the Ring Road from Sarai Kale Khan via the IP Flyover to reach Rajghat. Alternatively, they can also take Lajpat Rai Marg via Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, and the Ring Road.
Other options include Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, RML Marg, and Baba Kharak Singh Marg from Aurobindo Marg. Prithviraj Road can also be reached via Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, and Bhairon Road to Ring Road. Those coming from northern areas can go via Barfkhana via Azad Market, Rani Jhansi Flyover, Panchkuian Road, Hanuman Statue, Vande Mataram Marg, and Dhaula Kuan.
Several alternative routes have also been provided for those traveling from east to west or vice versa. From the Ring Road, routes such as Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithvi Raj Road, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, and Panchsheel Marg can be used.
Other options include taking the Ring Road via ISBT, Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mall Road, and Azadpur, or taking Lodhi Road via Aurobindo Marg to Teen Murti Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, and Park Street. The Delhi Traffic Police have appealed to all motorists for cooperation to ensure the rehearsal runs smoothly and maintain traffic order in the city.
