New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident has come to light from the tourist destination of Nainital, where a taxi driver allegedly attempted to rape a young woman who had come from Delhi for a trip. When she resisted, the accused reportedly assaulted her. The woman managed to escape from his grip, ran towards a forest area and was forced to hide there throughout the night in fear.

According to reports, the woman had arrived in Nainital on Thursday for sightseeing. She had hired a taxi driven by a resident of Haldwani, identified as Deepak Bora. The victim said that about 12 kilometres before reaching Nainital, the driver diverted the car from the main road towards a forest route near Patwadangar.

When the woman objected, the driver increased the speed of the car and later tried to force himself on her. The victim stated that the accused was drunk at the time of the incident and had also snatched her mobile phone. When she resisted, a scuffle broke out between them.

Taking advantage of the situation, the woman got out of the taxi and ran barefoot towards the forest to save herself. The accused chased her for some distance, but she managed to hide inside a culvert below the road and remained there in fear throughout the night.

The woman said that every sound in the forest during the night made her heart race. She was also scared of wild animals, but her main concern was to stay away from the accused. Despite the cold and fear, she somehow managed to spend the entire night hiding.

At daybreak, she gathered courage and came back towards the road. In the Baldiyakhan area, she sought help from a woman and narrated the entire incident. Local residents informed the police.

Based on the victim’s complaint, police have registered a case and arrested the accused taxi driver Deepak Bora. Officials said the investigation is underway and the victim is being provided necessary assistance.
