Tragic Train Accident in UP: Six Devotees Killed While Crossing Tracks on Their Way for Ganga Bath
Mirzapur (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic accident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district on Wednesday morning, where six devotees lost their lives after being hit by a train. The incident occurred at Chunar railway station when the passengers, after getting off one train, tried to cross the railway tracks and were struck by the Kalka Mail. The bodies were severely mutilated.
Upon receiving information, teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local administration reached the site. The bodies were removed from the tracks, and the identification process began immediately.
According to reports, around 9:15 a.m., several passengers had disembarked from the Gomo–Prayagraj Express and were crossing the tracks from the wrong direction. At that moment, the Kalka Mail was passing through platform number three, hitting them instantly. All six devotees were on their way to take a holy dip in the Ganges on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.
The deceased have been identified as Savita (28), wife of Rajkumar, resident of Kamariya, Rajgarh; Sadhana (16) and Shiv Kumari (12), daughters of Vijay Shankar Bind; Appu Devi (20), daughter of Shyam Prasad; Sushila Devi (60), wife of late Motilal, resident of Mahuari, Padri; and Kalawati Devi (50), wife of Janardan Yadav, resident of Baswa, Karma, Sonbhadra.
The accident caused chaos at Chunar station. Police and railway officials quickly brought the situation under control. ASP (Operations) Manish Kumar Mishra reached the site and directed a thorough investigation into the incident.
