New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major late-night operation, the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Gurugram Police shot dead wanted gangster Bhim Mahabahadur Jora, a notorious criminal carrying a reward for his arrest. The encounter took place in East of Kailash, Delhi, around midnight on Monday.

According to police sources, Jora — a native of Lalpur, Kailali district (Nepal) — was wanted in connection with the brutal murder of Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul in Delhi’s Jangpura area in May 2024. Acting on a confidential tip-off about his presence in the capital, the Delhi Police’s Special Staff (South-East District) led by Inspector Rajendra Singh Dagar, and the Gurugram Crime Branch team under Inspector Narendra Sharma, launched a joint operation to nab him.

How the Encounter Unfolded

Around 12:20 a.m. on October 6, the teams surrounded Jora in the East of Kailash area. Realizing he was cornered, the gangster opened fire on the police, firing six rounds in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated with five rounds, during which Jora sustained critical injuries.

He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A Notorious International Criminal Network

As per police records, Bhim Jora had a long history of serious crimes including murder, robbery, and theft across several cities — Delhi, Gurugram, Bengaluru, and Gujarat. Police recovered from the scene a modern automatic pistol, one live cartridge, three spent shells, and a bag containing burglary tools.

Investigators revealed that Jora was the kingpin of an international robbery and burglary gang operating between India and Nepal. In May 2024, he and his associates entered Jangpura with the intent to commit robbery, during which 63-year-old Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul was killed.

While four of his associates were arrested earlier, Jora had been on the run for 17 months, frequently changing locations to evade arrest.

Police Call It a Major Breakthrough

Authorities described the joint encounter as a significant success in their ongoing campaign against organized crime.

“Operations against such hardened criminals will continue. Our aim is to ensure public safety and build confidence among citizens,” said a senior Delhi Police official.

Police believe Jora’s death will weaken several cross-border criminal rackets active in northern India.
