Bombay HC Clears 'Ajay' After Watching Film, Paves Way for Release
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The Bombay High Court has put an end to the ongoing dispute with the Censor Board (CBFC) over the release of the film 'Ajay' based on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Rejecting the objections of the Censor Board, the court has allowed the release of the film. The special thing is that before giving the verdict, the bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Neela Gokhale had themselves watched the entire film on August 21.
During the hearing on Monday, the court clearly said, "We have seen the film, but there is no problem with it." The court asked the CBFC lawyer if he had seen the film, to which the lawyer replied 'no'. On this, the court commented that you should have seen the film, this would have made the debate easier. The court also rejected the CBFC's argument that the film could tarnish the image of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The court said that the book on which this film is based has been promoted by the Chief Minister himself.
The censor board's lawyers kept calling the film defamatory and kept citing their guidelines, but the court did not agree with their arguments. The CBFC said that the parts of the film that are creating opinion should be removed, to which the court said that this is your opinion. The court also said that there is nothing objectionable in this film compared to the content shown on other platforms.
The filmmakers argued that showing the film is their fundamental right. The court accepted the producers' plea as valid and ordered the release of the film. After this decision, the producers will soon announce the new release date of the film 'Ajay'.
