Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): Famous Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap, who was arrested in a hit-and-run case in Guwahati, will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court of Kamrup district on Friday.

In this case, 21-year-old engineering student Samiul Haque died. Nandini's two-day custody is over. The police have opposed her bail plea and demanded an extension of the custody period.

The incident took place on July 25 when Nandini's Bolero SUV hit Samiul Haque in Guwahati's Dakhingaon area late in the night.

Samiul, who was a student of Nalbari Polytechnic and worked in Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), was returning home after repairing a streetlight on the roadside. It is alleged that after the accident, Nandini neither stopped to help the injured nor took him to the hospital, but fled from the spot.

Samiul was rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, from where he was admitted to Apollo Hospital. He died during treatment on Tuesday night. Samiul's family has accused Nandini of not providing any help despite promising help in treatment. The family says that Nandini neither came to the hospital nor made any contact.

The police initially summoned Nandini for questioning on July 26 and released her on personal bail (PR bond). However, she was arrested on July 30 following Samiul’s death.

The police have added sections against Nandini, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police have seized Nandini's car and sent it for forensic examination and are also examining CCTV footage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora told reporters on Wednesday that the traffic police were not immediately aware of the incident on the night it happened. Nandini had voluntarily cooperated by appearing before the police on July 26, so there was no need for a medical examination at that time.

Meanwhile, a leading theatre group in Guwahati has cancelled its agreement with Nandini.
