Veteran actor who battled liver cancer, dies; remembered for his iconic role as 'Sitapati'
Bengaluru (The Uttam Hindu): Indian cinema has received yet another bout of devastating news. Veteran Kannada comedian MS Umesh has passed away. He had been battling liver cancer for a long time. The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry and among his fans.
He was admitted after falling at home. According to the information, the health of the senior actor was deteriorating for some time. Last month he slipped and fell at his home, after which he was admitted to the hospital for treatment. He breathed his last in the hospital after battling between life and death. MS Umesh was known for his excellent comic timing and memorable performances in films like 'Sankata Me Venkata' and 'Golmaal Radhakrishna'. His character of "Sitapati" played in the film 'Golmaal Radhakrishna' is still alive in the hearts of the audience.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy expressed grief. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy paid tribute to the actor on the social media platform 'X'. He wrote, "I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of renowned comedian Shri M.S. Umesh. Umesh, who brought laughter to audiences with his refreshing humor, was an actor who enriched the Kannada film industry. His passing is a huge loss to the Kannada art world."
Karnataka MLA MB Patil also expressed his condolences, saying that his journey, which began in theatre, extended to cinema and television, where he carved a unique niche for himself. National Award-winning actor-director Aniruddha Jatkar wrote on Instagram, "Kannada film industry's comedian MS Umesh Sir is no more."
