Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Haryana government has given a big gift to the women power of the state in the new year. Taking an important step towards women empowerment, major changes have been made in the rules of the 'Deen Dayal Lado Laxmi Yojana'. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, it was decided that now the benefits of this scheme will also be available to women from families with annual family income up to Rs 1.80 lakh. This decision of the government will enable lakhs of new women to get financial assistance of Rs 2,100 every month.

Along with the expansion of the scheme, the government has also established new categories of beneficiaries, linked to educational and health standards. According to the new rules, mothers of meritorious students who have scored more than 80 percent marks in class 10th or 12th in government schools will now be eligible for the scheme. Furthermore, mothers of children who have achieved grade-level qualifications from class 1 to 4 under the Nipun Bharat Mission and mothers who have freed their children from severe or moderate malnutrition will also be eligible. However, keeping population control in mind, the government has clarified that mothers with more than three children will not be eligible for the scheme.

Keeping in mind the vision of 'Developed India 2047', the government has also made a major and visionary change in the method of distribution of assistance amount. Eligible women will receive Rs 2,100 every month, but its purpose is not only for immediate expenses but also for future savings. Under the scheme, the entire amount will be credited to the account in the first month, but from the second month onwards it will be divided into two parts. Out of this, Rs 1,100 will be credited directly to the woman's savings account, while the remaining Rs 1,000 will be deposited in a government-run RD or FD. This deposited amount will be given to the beneficiary along with interest on completion of the 5-year maturity period.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that these changes will not only empower women financially but also instill a habit of saving. It's worth noting that this scheme was a key promise of the BJP in the 2024 assembly elections, and was implemented on September 25, 2025, after the BJP formed the government. Under this scheme, benefits are being provided to women between the ages of 23 and 60, and more than 1 million women in the state have already registered. The government believes that integrating education and nutrition standards into the scheme will yield significant results in social reform.
