Anil Vij Cracks the Whip: 6 Officials Suspended After Farmer’s Electrocution Tragedy
Haryana (The Uttam Hindu)Haryana's Power Minister, Anil Vij, has taken swift and strict action following the tragic death of a farmer due to alleged negligence by officials of the electricity department. Minister Vij has ordered the immediate suspension of Nigdu Electricity Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Mohit Kumar, Junior Engineer (JE) Sunil Kumar, and four linemen — Deepak, Ajit, Satyawan, and Vikas.
The incident occurred on Sunday near Haibatpur village, where 42-year-old farmer Rajesh died after receiving an electric shock in the fields. His family claims the accident happened because of carelessly hanging electric wires, and they blame the electricity department for not addressing the issue despite repeated complaints.
According to Rajesh’s cousin, Pradeep Kumar, multiple complaints had been lodged with the SDO, JE, and linemen to fix the dangerous wires, but no action was taken. There are also allegations that department employees had demanded bribes to carry out the necessary repairs.
Outraged by the inaction, the villagers protested by placing Rajesh’s body on the road, blocking traffic for three hours. Though a case had already been filed at the Nigdu police station against the electricity officials, the villagers escalated the matter to Minister Anil Vij after the police reportedly failed to take further steps. This ultimately led to the suspensions.
