Faridabad Horror: Girl Student Shot Dead After Being Stalked for Two Days; Had Called Family Saying “I’ve Been Shot”
Faridabad (The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across Haryana, a 19-year-old college student was shot dead in broad daylight in Faridabad after being stalked continuously for two days by the accused. The young woman, identified as a second-year undergraduate student, reportedly managed to make a desperate phone call to her family moments after the attack, saying, “Mujhe goli lagi hai” (“I’ve been shot”).
According to the police, the incident occurred near Sector 8, Faridabad, when the victim was returning home from college. The accused, who had allegedly been following her for the past two days, intercepted her near a deserted stretch and opened fire before fleeing the spot on a motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses rushed the girl to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Her family told police that she had mentioned feeling uncomfortable due to a man who had been following and harassing her near the college campus earlier this week.
The Faridabad Police have launched a massive manhunt to trace the accused, who has been identified through CCTV footage from the area. Preliminary investigation suggests the accused may have been acquainted with the victim and had attempted to contact her multiple times before the attack.
“We have identified the suspect and formed multiple teams to arrest him. The motive appears to be one-sided obsession and harassment. Strictest legal action will be taken,” said DCP Faridabad, Sube Singh.
The incident has reignited the debate over women’s safety and stalking laws in Haryana and the NCR region. Locals have demanded stricter surveillance near educational institutions and harsher punishment for offenders involved in crimes against women.
Women’s rights activists have also called for better implementation of anti-stalking laws under Section 354D of the Indian Penal Code and emphasized the need for early police intervention in harassment complaints.
