Power Minister Vij says electricity will become a basic necessity for every citizen
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Haryana Power Minister Anil Vij said that the state government is committed to making electricity a basic necessity for every citizen and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to every household. He stated that AT&C losses in the state have been reduced from 30.3 percent to 9.97 percent, reflecting major improvements in the power sector. Under the Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon scheme, 24-hour electricity supply has already been ensured in 6,019 villages across the state.
The Power Minister said that the foundation stone of an 800 MW ultra-supercritical power unit was laid in Yamunanagar on April 14, 2025. In addition, new power plants with capacities of 800 MW each are proposed in Panipat and Khedar in Hisar to meet future energy requirements. He also said that under the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, subsidies ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000 are being provided for installing solar rooftops. So far, 37,308 solar rooftop systems have been installed in the state.
Speaking about the transport sector, Vij said that transport is not just a means of travel but an important foundation for social harmony and economic growth. Approval has been given to increase the state transport bus fleet from 4,500 to 5,300 buses. Under this plan, 375 AC electric buses will be purchased. Additionally, under the PM e-Bus Seva Project, 450 new electric buses will be operated in 10 cities of the state, which will also promote environmental protection.
The Power Minister said that Republic Day reminds citizens not only of their rights but also of their duties. He urged people to adopt constitutional values and contribute collectively towards building a strong and developed India. On the occasion, families of freedom fighters, senior citizens, and distinguished citizens were honored. Administrative officers, public representatives, and a large number of citizens were present at the event.
