40 schools damaged in Himachal’s Solan due to heavy rains, 6 completely destroyed

Solan (The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rains this year in Himachal Pradesh have caused severe damage to the education system along with the life of the people. According to the report of the Primary Education Department in Solan district, so far about 40 schools have been partially or completely damaged. The damage caused to these buildings has been estimated to be around Rs 1 crore 90 lakh.

While talking to the media on Saturday, Mohindra Chand Pirta, Deputy Director of the Department said that Solan district has also been affected by the heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh this year. According to the Education Department, about 40 schools in the district have suffered partial or complete damage. The estimated cost of damage to the schools is about Rs 1 crore 90 lakh. A proposal has been sent to the District Deputy Commissioner's Office and the higher department for repair and reconstruction.

He said that six of the damaged schools have completely collapsed or are so unsafe that it is not possible to teach children there. Due to incidents of land subsidence and building collapse at many places children have been shifted to alternative safe buildings. These temporary arrangements include Panchayat Bhawan, Community Center, Private Building and nearby safe school buildings.

Deputy Director Mohindra Chand Pirta further said that an action plan has been prepared for the permanent buildings of the affected schools. The construction of new buildings of some schools has started but due to lack of budget it is getting delayed in completion. The department has sent a proposal to the higher authorities for additional budget. Ensuring the safety of children and their education is our priority. As soon as the budget is approved the reconstruction of damaged buildings will be completed quickly so that children get the opportunity to study in a safe environment.
