Himachal Pradesh CM faces threat: 'Explosion warning' ahead of Republic day celebrations in Shimla
Shimla (The Uttam Hindu): Just before the Republic Day celebrations in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, a case has come to light challenging the security arrangements. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) office here has received a threatening email, which has disturbed the administration. This anonymous email claims that if the Chief Minister hoists the national flag on Republic Day on January 26, then an attack will be carried out by a human bomb (suicide bomber). Taking this threat very seriously, the police administration is on high alert and a case has been registered under various criminal sections and investigation has been started.
A threatening message was received on the official mail of the Deputy Commissioner
According to administrative sources, this threatening message was received on the official email ID of the Shimla Deputy Commissioner's office. Police investigations revealed that the email was sent from an ID called "canyoutextmeback@gmail.com." Upon receiving the message, the DC's office immediately responded and informed the Sadar police station through the SSP's office. The language and content of the email are clearly intimidating, with an unknown individual issuing an open challenge to the government via electronic means.
Attempts to spread rumours and break the integrity of the country
Police say that this threat, coming on an important national occasion like Republic Day, cannot be taken lightly, and therefore a security review is underway. However, police also believe that prima facie, this appears to be a rumor and a false message spread by mischievous elements. According to police, the primary purpose of such messages is to instill fear and a sense of insecurity among the general public. Investigating officers have termed this a malicious attempt to harm the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the country.
A case has been registered under the BNS Act and the cyber cell is investigating
Shimla police, acting swiftly, have registered an FIR at Sadar police station under sections 351(3), 353(1)(b), and 152 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A police officer stated that a technical investigation is underway to identify the sender of the email. The cyber cell is analyzing digital evidence to track the accused through IP addresses. Police have also appealed to the public not to panic and disbelieve rumors. Anyone who notices any suspicious activity should immediately report it to the police.
