Tension Erupts in Shimla’s Kasumpti After Mosque Wall Collapse, Woman Alleges Assault – Crowd Gathers, Police Steps In
Shimla (The Uttam Hindu):Tension gripped the Kasumpti suburb of Shimla on Wednesday night after a dispute between two communities escalated following the collapse of a wall near a mosque. The incident led to a heated argument, drawing a crowd and forcing police to intervene around 9:30 PM. Authorities have since brought the situation under control and an investigation is underway.
According to police, a retaining wall (danga) near a mosque close to Kasumpti Chowk collapsed due to heavy rains. The debris fell close to a nearby house. Following this, a woman named Meena came out of the house and got into an argument with a local youth, Naeem, who was present at the scene. She accused him of pushing her, which allegedly caused her injury. Her son, Prateek, has filed a complaint with the police.
In response, Naeem also submitted a counter-complaint, alleging verbal abuse. The altercation attracted a large crowd, but the swift action by the police prevented any escalation. SHO Mamta from Chhota Shimla Police Station confirmed that Meena is undergoing a medical examination, and further action will depend on the report.
Due to the structural damage caused by the wall collapse, one nearby building was declared unsafe and evacuated immediately. Authorities have urged locals to remain calm and not fall prey to rumors or misinformation.
