Rain fury in Himachal: Bus stand submerged in Mandi, vehicles swept away, one dead
Mandi (The Uttam Hindu): Torrential rain in Mandi district on Monday night caused massive destruction. The bus stand and nearby houses and shops in Dharampur were flooded. More than 10 government buses and vehicles were swept away due to the strong current. There are reports of some people also being swept away in the water, although this has not been confirmed by the administration. BJP leader Rajat Thakur said that 6 people are missing in Dharampur.

Between 2 and 3 am, the first floors of many houses were submerged in water. On Tuesday morning the water level receded but by then damage had already been done at many places. Meanwhile, a house collapsed due to a landslide in Bragta village of Mandi. In this accident, five members of a family got buried under the debris. The villagers rescued two people safely, one body has been recovered while two are still missing. Rescue operations are underway.
The situation is also bad in Shimla. More than 15 vehicles were buried under the debris due to landslides in Himland, BCS School and Panjali. Circular Road, which is called the lifeline of Shimla has been closed due to landslides in Himland. The Meteorological Department Shimla has issued a yellow alert for rain for six districts - Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur - on Tuesday. Although the intensity of rain is expected to decrease slightly from Wednesday, there are no signs of monsoon going away yet. The administration has appealed to the people to stay away from rivers, drains and landslide prone areas. Relief and rescue teams are continuously engaged in work.
