New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): There is a big news of relief for the people suffering from heat across the country. In the next 24 hours, the southwest monsoon is going to hit the Kerala coast, and it is arriving about a week before its scheduled time. This will not only bring down the temperature, but will also clear the way for farmers to sow Kharif crops soon.

Monsoon will arrive soonest in 16 years! It will reach Kerala in the next 24 hours, farmers across the country will get relief : According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), this is the first time after 2009 and 2001 that the monsoon is reaching Kerala so early i.e. in May itself. The normal date of arrival of monsoon in Kerala is 1 June, but this time it is going to enter the state before 27 May. The state has been receiving heavy rainfall for the last two days, which is a clear indication of the progress of monsoon. The Meteorological Department has confirmed that the low pressure area and other favorable conditions are strengthening the entry of monsoon.

India receives 70% of its annual rainfall between June and September, which is directly linked to agriculture, drinking water, and the rural economy. This year, the weather department has forecast above-average rainfall, which is expected to boost production of crops like paddy, maize, soybean, cotton, and oilseeds. According to the IMD, the monsoon may rapidly advance to parts of the South and Central Arabian Sea, Maldives and Lakshadweep, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Bay of Bengal, and Northeast India in the coming days.

A low pressure weather system is likely to form in the east-central Arabian Sea, which may change the pattern of winds and rain on the western coasts as it moves northwards. States like Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka will benefit from this. The period of intense heat continues in many parts of the country. In such a situation, the early entry of monsoon is expected to bring relief in temperature. Monsoon may knock in North India by 25–30 June and in West India by 15–20 June.
