Ahilyanagar erupts over 'I love Mohammad' rangoli: Police lathi charge, 30 detained
Ahilyanagar (The Uttam Hindu): A major controversy has erupted in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, over a rangoli with the words "I love Mohammad" painted on the street. Members of the Muslim community, considering it an insult to the Prophet Muhammad, protested outside the city police station, leading to a tense situation. Police had to use mild force to control the crowd, and 30 people have been detained so far.
According to preliminary information from the police, some unidentified individuals had created a rangoli with the words "I Love Mohammad" on a street in the city. As soon as this information reached members of the Muslim community, they became angry. They considered it an attempt to hurt religious sentiments and insult the Prophet. Hundreds of people gathered outside the Kotwali police station and began a protest.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the police administration immediately went into high alert mode. They attempted to calm the protesters and informed them that action would be taken against those who created the rangoli. Acting swiftly, the police identified the rangoli artists and filed a case against two individuals, one of whom has been arrested.
Senior police officers arrived at the scene and attempted to convince the crowd that action had been taken against the main accused, but some unruly elements in the crowd continued to create a ruckus. Seeing the situation spiral out of control, the police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd.
At present, the situation in the city has been brought under control, and heavy police presence has been deployed in sensitive areas. Police have appealed to the public not to believe any rumors and to maintain peace. Police say further investigation is underway.
