Air India Chennai Flight Returns to Mumbai After Cabin Fills with Burning Smell

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu) :  Air India's Chennai-bound flight AI 639 was forced to make an emergency return to Mumbai airport shortly after takeoff on Friday night due to a burning smell detected inside the cabin. The flight, which departed from Mumbai at 10:55 PM, safely returned to the airport as a precautionary measure.

An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, describing it as a "precautionary air return" carried out in the interest of passenger and crew safety. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai, and all passengers were promptly deboarded. Following the safe landing, the aircraft was taken out of service for a thorough technical inspection and necessary repairs.

“Air India places the highest priority on the safety of its guests and crew and is fully prepared to handle such situations swiftly and safely,” the spokesperson stated. The airline ensured that passengers received full assistance in handling the disruption. Ground staff at Mumbai airport provided support and helped minimize inconvenience,. Arrangements were made to rebook and accommodate passengers on an alternate flight to Chennai.
