Air India issues travel advisory, cancels flights to New York and Newark due to heavy snowfall
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the threat of a historic and severe winter storm (snowstorm) coming to America, Air India has taken a big decision. The airline has cancelled all its flights to and from Newark Airport in New York and New Jersey on January 25 and 26. This step has been taken to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members. Issuing a travel advisory, the airline has said that there is a strong possibility of heavy snowfall and severe cold in the East Coast of America, especially in the areas of New York and New Jersey, from Sunday morning till Monday, which may have a serious impact on air traffic operations.
Millions of people are at risk of the storm, other airlines are also affected
The United States is currently in the grip of a record-breaking winter storm, the effects of which are being felt from the Central Plains to the Northeast. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a serious warning, saying that this storm could disrupt the lives of millions of people. According to the Meteorological Department, the situation could become extremely critical due to heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and dangerous cold. It is feared that roads may be closed in many areas, power supply may be disrupted, and traffic may come to a complete halt. This is why, apart from Air India, many other international airlines have either limited or cancelled their services to the affected areas.
Trump alerts FEMA, urges people to stay indoors

He said that the White House is keeping a close eye on the situation and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been put on full alert mode. The President said that federal and local agencies have been instructed to deal with any emergency. Meanwhile, weather experts have appealed to the general public to travel only when absolutely necessary and to keep an eye on official weather updates. Air India has also advised its passengers to stay in touch with the official website and customer support for information on flight status.
