Islamabad, Pakistan (The Uttam Hindu) — Asif Ali Zardari on Monday alleged that India is preparing for another conflict and strongly criticized New Delhi’s move to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, describing the step as “hydro-terrorism.”

Zardari said statements from Indian leaders suggest preparations for war, but added that as someone who supports regional peace, he would not advise such a course. He maintained that Islamabad is open to dialogue and urged India to step back from confrontation and engage in meaningful negotiations, saying this is the only path to ensuring long-term regional stability.

The Pakistani president also reiterated his country’s diplomatic and moral backing for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that sustainable peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without resolving the Kashmir issue.

Referring to India’s decision regarding the Indus Water Treaty, Zardari alleged that water resources were being used as a political tool, calling it a serious threat to regional harmony.

Quoting a United Nations report, he also voiced concern over the presence of militant groups in Afghanistan, warning that ignoring the threat could expose other nations to major attacks.

Zardari further claimed that Pakistan has taken diplomatic initiatives to prevent military tensions from escalating in the wake of cross-border terrorism. He added that Pakistan would not permit its territory to be used against any country to undermine peace.
