Another Temple Tragedy: Ausaneshwar Stampede Leaves 2 Dead, 37 Injured
Barabanki (The Uttam Hindu):– A tragic incident occurred at the Ausaneshwar temple in Haidergarh on Monday morning around 3 AM, when a stampede broke out due to an electric shock. Two people lost their lives in the chaos, while 37 others sustained injuries—many of them critically.
According to reports, a large crowd of devotees had gathered since midnight to offer *Jalabhishek* at the temple. As the queue continued to swell in the early hours, a high-tension wire reportedly snapped and fell on the tin shed installed for shade, triggering an electric current that spread rapidly. Panic broke out as devotees began to run in all directions, pushing each other in fear. In the resulting stampede, several people fell and got trampled.
Among the deceased is 22-year-old Prashant, a resident of Mubarakpur in Trivediganj. Another unidentified person also died on the spot. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby community health centers in Haidergarh and Trivediganj. One of the critically injured, Arjun from Majhisa in Raebareli, has been referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.
Officials, including District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya, reached the temple premises shortly after the incident. They took stock of the situation and instructed medical teams to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
Initial investigations suggest that a group of monkeys, which are commonly seen around the temple premises, may have caused the wire to break after jumping on or pulling at it. Authorities are now probing the incident further and have assured that appropriate measures will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
