New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun laying out its political chessboard to secure victory in the upcoming assembly elections. In a major move, the party has released its first and crucial list of candidates for West Bengal and Kerala. This list finalizes candidates for 114 key seats in West Bengal and 47 in Kerala. This major announcement by the BJP, even before the election dates, has intensified political activity in both states, sounding the election bugle.

Focus on 114 seats in Bengal

The BJP is putting all its efforts to gain power in West Bengal. Among the 114 seats the party has fielded, priority has been given to areas where it performed well in previous elections. While the high command has reposed its faith in its veteran leaders, it has also fielded young and new faces in several constituencies to counter the possibility of an anti-incumbency wave. Strategists believe that announcing candidates so early will give leaders ample time to connect with the public and campaign in their respective constituencies.

Preparations to breach the Left fort in Kerala with 47 seats

To strengthen its political base in the important southern state of Kerala, the BJP has announced candidates for 47 seats. The party has devised a specific strategy to challenge the traditional dominance of the LDF and UDF in the state. Caste-based ticket distribution, along with the "Metro Model" and development agenda, has been the main focus. This is why the party has fielded former bureaucrats and grassroots social workers. The BJP hopes that these 47 candidates will be successful in denting the party's vote bank in the southern and central regions of Kerala.

The BJP's first list includes K. Surendran from Manjeshwar, Manuel Meloth from Udma, Balraj M from Kanhangad, A.P. Gangadharan from Payyannur, K.K. Vinod Kumar from Azhikode, C. Raghunath from Kannur, P. Shyam Raj from Mananthavady (ST), Kavitha A.S. from Sultanbathery (ST), Advocate K. Dilip from Vadakara, Ramdas Manleri from Kuttiyadi, C.P. Vipin Chandran from Nadapuram, C.R. Praful Krishnan from Quilandy and M. Mohanan Master from Perambra.

Rajendran from Devikulam (SC), and Shon George from Pala.

The BJP has reposed faith in K. Ajith from Vaikom (SC), Advocate George Kurian from Kanjirappally, PC George from Poonjar, Arun Aniruddhan from Ambalappuzha, Sandeep Vachaspati from Haripad seat and MV Gopakumar from Chengannur.

The reputation of the giants is at stake

The release of this list of BJP candidates in Bengal and Kerala has made the contest extremely interesting. The BJP has created a strong alliance against the TMC in Bengal and the Left parties in Kerala. The ticket distribution has focused on ensuring that the respective leaders have a strong and robust local public following. The names of candidates for the remaining seats are likely to be announced in the coming days, leading to a further surge in election rallies and campaigning in both states.
