Bomb threat to Maulana Azad Medical College and CM Secretariat, agencies on high alert
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): There was a stir in the country's capital Delhi on Tuesday when Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and the Chief Minister's Secretariat received a threatening email. The mail claimed that a bomb would be exploded at 2:45 pm in MAMC and at 3:30 pm in the CM Secretariat.
As soon as the threat was received, the police and security agencies swung into action. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Team immediately reached the spot and started intensive investigation and scanning at both the places. Quick and coordinated action was taken to ensure the safety of all the people. According to the police, in the preliminary investigation, this mail has been found to match some fake mails received last time and it is suspected that this mail may have been sent to some other state. Nevertheless, it has been taken very seriously and all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being followed.
As part of the action, Additional DCP-1 (Central), ACP Kamla Market and SHO IP Estate are present at the CM Secretariat and a thorough investigation is being conducted. ATO IP Estate is monitoring the security check at MAMC. At the same time, SHO Cyber Cell (Central) is investigating the threatening email. Apart from this, other agencies like DDMA, Traffic Police and Special Cell have also been alerted and they are cooperating in the entire operation. At present, the search operation is going on. Delhi Police appealed to the people and said that there is no need to panic. Updates will be given as and when further information is available.
It is worth noting that in the recent past, many prestigious institutions, offices, schools and colleges of Delhi have received false bomb threats. Earlier, threatening emails were sent to about 20 colleges including Jesus and Mary College located in Chanakyapuri. After investigation, it was found that this threat was false. Initial investigation has also revealed that the person sending the email might have used VPN to hide his identity.
