Bombay High Court receives bomb threat, campus evacuated for security checks
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The Bombay High Court received another bomb threat on Friday morning sending security agencies into a tizzy. Immediately after receiving a threatening email on the High Court's official website, a Mumbai Police team and bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough search of the entire premises. However, after hours of investigation nothing suspicious was found prompting officials to breathe a sigh of relief.
Mumbai Police said in a statement that a thorough search of the High Court premises was carried out as per standard procedure following the threat but no suspicious object was found. It's worth noting that a similar threat was made exactly a week ago.
It should be noted that the High Court received a similar threatening email last Friday, September 12th. At that time, given the seriousness of the matter, the court administration ordered all judges, lawyers, staff and others to immediately vacate the court premises. A bomb squad also inspected the entire premises that day but that threat also proved to be false.
According to security agencies, there has been a recent increase in the number of fake threats against important national institutions aimed solely at spreading terror. Police are trying to track down the sender's IP address and identify the suspects.
