Tragedy on way to celebration: Bus from Chhattisgarh crashes in Latehar, 5 killed 25 injured
Latehar/Ranchi (The Uttam Hindu): On Sunday, joyous moments in Jharkhand's Latehar district turned to tears when a horrific road accident claimed five lives. A bus carrying passengers from Chhattisgarh, traveling to attend an engagement ceremony, lost control and overturned in the dangerous Orsa Valley in the Mahuadand police station area. Five people died on the spot in the tragic accident, while more than 25 were injured, many of whom remained in critical condition.
The bus was coming from Balrampur and lost its balance in the valley.
According to reports, all passengers on the ill-fated bus were residents of Maharajganj village in Balrampur district, Chhattisgarh. They were traveling to Latehar to attend a family engagement ceremony. As the bus approached the treacherous Orsa Valley, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. The overturning caused chaos, leaving passengers trapped inside.
The villagers and the administration jointly carried out the rescue operation.
As soon as news of the accident spread, local villagers demonstrated their humanity. Even before the administration arrived, they began relief work and began transporting the injured to the hospital in their own vehicles. Upon receiving information about the incident, Mahuadand SDM Vipin Kumar Dubey swung into action and immediately dispatched health teams from Mahuadand, Garu, and Netarhat, along with ambulances, to the scene. Through a joint effort by the administration and local residents, the injured were evacuated.

All the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals for first aid. According to doctors, the condition of several passengers is critical and they are being referred to larger hospitals for better treatment. Officials stated that the exact number of deaths and the condition of the injured will only be officially confirmed after a complete medical examination. Currently, administration and health department teams are continuously engaged in relief and rescue operations, but this incident has saddened the entire area.
