By-Elections Announced in Jharkhand, Mizoram, and Jammu & Kashmir: Check the Dates
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for vacant assembly seats in three states and one union territory Jharkhand, Mizoram, and Jammu & Kashmir. These by-elections will be completed by November 16, 2025.
In Jharkhand, the 45-Ghatshila (ST) assembly seat became vacant following the demise of Ram Das Soren on August 15, 2025. The Election Commission has set the schedule for the by-election, confirming that a new MLA will be elected by November 16. The last date for nominations is October 21, scrutiny of papers will be on October 22, and withdrawal of nominations can be done till October 24. Polling will be held on November 11, from 7 AM to 5 PM.
In Mizoram, the 2-Dampa (ST) seat became vacant after Lalrinthalawna Sailo passed away on July 21, 2025. The by-election here will also be concluded by November 16. The last date for nominations is October 21, scrutiny on October 22, withdrawal till October 24, and voting will be on November 11, from 7 AM to 4 PM.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the 77-Nagrota assembly seat became vacant after the death of Devender Singh Rana on October 31, 2024. The Election Commission has decided to conduct the by-election here as well. The last date for nominations is October 20, scrutiny on October 22, withdrawal till October 24, and polling will be held on November 11, from 7 AM to 6 PM.
The Election Commission has clarified that all three by-elections will be conducted under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, ensuring fair, transparent, and time-bound elections in accordance with the law.
