'Submit affidavit in 7 days or apologize to nation': CEC responds to Rahul's charge
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has hit back at the allegations leveled by the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on the Election Commission in the Lok Sabha. On Rahul's allegations, he said that he will have to give an affidavit in 7 days or apologize to the country.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in a press conference on Sunday, “India has the world's largest voter list, the largest army of election workers and the highest number of people who vote. Despite this, it is claimed in front of the media that if someone's name is there twice in the voter list, then he must have voted twice. It is not possible to make all our voters criminals and despite this the Election Commission remains silent. An affidavit will have to be given or an apology will have to be made to the country. There is no third option. I want to say through the media that if the affidavit is not received in 7 days, then all these allegations will be considered baseless. Whoever is saying that our voters are fake, should apologize.”
Referring to the voters of Maharashtra, he said, “The voter list in Maharashtra increased. When there was time, why were claims and objections not submitted? When the result came, it was remembered that it was wrong. The Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra has not received the name of even a single voter with proof. It has been eight months since the elections in Maharashtra. Despite this, why was no election petition filed in the Supreme Court? Apart from this, it was also said that how did so much voting happen in the last hour and the commission has also answered this. I will only say that the truth is the truth and the sun rises in the east. It will not rise in the west because of someone's words.”
Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar also said, “The Election Commission has been working with full diligence for 75 years. If you make baseless allegations against the Election Commission by combining the voter list and voting and say that there is theft, then this is wrong. The public understands everything. Even if a person has votes in two places, he still goes to vote at only one place. Voting at two places is a legal offense and if a person says so, then proof is needed. Proof was asked for, but was not found.”
