New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major step toward ensuring peace and stability in the Northeast, the central government on Monday tightened its grip on the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K). The Home Ministry declared the NSCN-K and all its affiliated factions, branches, and organizations as "unlawful associations" for five years. The ban will take effect immediately, starting September 28th.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order explaining the reason for this ban. According to the ministry, the NSCN-K's primary objective is to establish a "sovereign Nagaland" by combining territories of India and Myanmar, which directly poses a serious threat to India's sovereignty and integrity.

The order also stated that the organization has consistently engaged in violent and illegal activities, including the kidnapping of government officials and civilians. The government clarified that it is essential to curb the activities of such organizations and take strict action against them.

Following this decision, security agencies will now have the authority to confiscate the assets of the NSCN-K and its factions. Additionally, strict legal action will be taken against those working for the organization or associated with it in any way. This government move is not only aimed at strengthening security but also represents an important effort to establish lasting peace in the Northeast. The government has also appealed to citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity to the local administration or police.
