Jalpaiguri (The Uttam Hindu): An attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who had gone to distribute relief supplies to flood-affected people in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, has sparked outrage. It is alleged that BJP MP from Malda North, Khagen Murmu, and local MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers. The BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee government over the incident and raised serious questions about the law and order situation in the state.

The incident occurred in the Nagrakata area of Jalpaiguri, where MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh had gone to assess the post-flood situation and distribute relief supplies to victims. MLA Shankar Ghosh alleged that he and the MP were attacked while they were helping people.

Following the incident, BJP IT wing chief Amit Malviya launched a direct attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress. He posted on the social media platform 'X', "Khagen Murmu, two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by Trinamool Congress leaders while he was on his way to help people in Nagrakata in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri. Those who are genuinely helping people are being attacked. This is Trinamool Congress Bengal, where brutality is rampant."

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said, "Mamata Banerjee is in a complete panic. Bengal BJP MLAs and MPs are working on the ground to provide relief to the affected people, which she doesn't like."

Khagen Murmu is a two-time MP from the Malda North Lok Sabha constituency. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and served as an MLA from Habibpur before joining the BJP in 2019. The attack has once again escalated political tensions between the BJP and the TMC in the state.
