Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed heavy uproar on Friday following reports of the death of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Some National Conference leaders entered the House carrying his photographs and raised slogans in support, while posters were also displayed during the proceedings.
Tensions escalated when a heated exchange broke out between Congress and BJP MLAs. The situation turned chaotic after remarks were made about Rahul Gandhi leading to shouting and a scuffle inside the House. Congress MLA Irfan Hafiz raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while BJP MLA Yudhvir Sethi responded with comments that further intensified the confrontation.
The situation soon led to pushing and shoving between members forcing others to step in and restore order. Due to the disruption, Assembly proceedings were adjourned for a short period.
Meanwhile, National Conference MLA Tanveer Sadiq stated that his party stands with Iran and condemned the attack saying no country has the right to target another. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Iran as tensions in the region continue torise.
