Cyber fraud hits Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, Rs 56 lakh siphoned from bank account
Kolkata(The Uttam Hindu): Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has alleged that he was a victim of cyber fraud, with around Rs 56 lakh being siphoned from his bank account linked to his tenure as an MLA years ago.
The bank authorities themselves filed a complaint with the Kolkata police cybercrime department, stating that the account in question was opened during Banerjee's tenure as MLA of Asansol South between 2001-2006.
The account, which was used to deposit Banerjee's allowances, had been dormant for a long time. Fraudsters allegedly exploited this account, using the MP's photo and mobile number to transfer and withdraw the funds.
Banerjee's primary account is currently with SBI's Kalighat branch, and he claims to have been informed about the fraud by the manager of the High Court branch.
