Devastating fire caused by short circuit claims lives of 5 family members

Muzaffarpur (The Uttam Hindu): Five members of a family were burned to death in a house fire late Friday night in the Motipur police station area of Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. According to police, the incident occurred in Ward No. 13 of Motipur.


It is said that Lalan Kumar's entire family had dinner and slept peacefully on Friday night. Late that night, a fire broke out in their house. When neighbors were alerted to the fire, they attempted to evacuate the people, but were unable to save five people.


Motipur police station in-charge Sanjeev Kumar Singh said that five people died at the scene, while five others were injured. The deceased included Lalan Kumar, his wife, mother, and two children. He added that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.


However, prima facie evidence suggests a short circuit. It is being speculated that the family members may have been sleeping and the short circuit may have ignited a fire in the house, resulting in burns to their deaths. Police have taken all the bodies into custody and sent them to the hospital for post-mortem. They stated that the deaths could also have been due to suffocation.


Police are investigating the incident from all angles. The fire was brought under control with the help of local residents. Five other people were injured in the incident and have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the entire incident. It's worth noting that incidents of house fires have been increasing during the winter.
