New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday strongly criticized the government’s decision to invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against renowned environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk. Calling the move “highly objectionable and undemocratic,” Singh said such actions against voices of truth reflect the government’s intolerance towards dissent.

Singh asserted that Congress stands firmly with Wangchuk, who has been raising critical issues related to Ladakh’s environment, glaciers, and people’s rights. “Targeting him under draconian laws is unacceptable. He speaks for India’s future, not against it,” Singh remarked, urging the Modi government to withdraw the NSA charges immediately.

Wangchuk, known globally for his innovative education models and sustainable initiatives in Ladakh, has been actively campaigning for constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh. His activism has drawn widespread attention, making him a prominent voice for ecological preservation and democratic rights in the region.

Congress leaders have rallied behind him, calling the government’s step an “attempt to silence activists” ahead of crucial political developments in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Political analysts believe this controversy may sharpen the discourse on civil liberties, environmental justice, and people’s participation in governance.
