New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission has responded to the demand of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha to discuss Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024. It has invited Rahul Gandhi to hold talks with the Election Commission and said that the Election Commission is also ready to meet you personally and discuss all the issues.

The Election Commission of India Secretariat said, “In view of your article published in a newspaper on the Maharashtra Assembly elections held last year, I am directed to inform you that similar issues were raised by the Indian National Congress (INC) after the Assembly elections in November 2024. The Commission had given a detailed reply to the INC on 24th December 2024, a copy of which is available on the ECI website.”

It further said, “All elections are conducted by the Election Commission of India strictly in accordance with the election laws passed by Parliament, rules made therein and the Commission’s directions issued from time to time. As you are aware, the entire election process is conducted in a decentralised manner at the Assembly Constituency level, with the participation of over 1,00,186 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 288 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 139 General Observers, 41 Police Observers, 71 Expenditure Observers, 288 Returning Officers (ROs) appointed by the Commission and 1,08,026 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by national and state political parties, including 28,421 agents of the INC.”

He said, “We believe that any issue related to the conduct of the election would have already been raised by the INC candidates through election petitions in the competent court. However, if you still have any issues, you can write to us. The Commission is also ready to meet you in person and discuss all the issues. For this, you can inform the convenient date and time through the Election Commission email.”
