Emergency alert: Passenger's brazen act sparks panic on Varanasi-bound flight, 152 lives at stake
The 26-year-old, Mohammad Adnan, was arrested after landing, citing a "ghost's influence" for his actions
Varanasi (The Uttam Hindu): Just before landing at Babatpur Airport in Varanasi, a fear of death loomed over an Indigo flight when a passenger committed a horrific act mid-air. A young man travelling in Indigo flight (6E-185) from Bengaluru to Varanasi tried to open the emergency gate of the plane a few minutes before landing. Seeing this unexpected and horrific act, the passengers sitting nearby screamed and there was chaos in the entire plane. On being informed by the crew members, the pilot showed presence of mind and turned the plane towards the sky again. The police have arrested this passenger who put the lives of 152 passengers and two innocent children in danger, and the security agencies are also surprised to hear his argument.
There was a commotion during landing, the pilot had to fly the plane again
This horrifying incident occurred when the plane was about to land on the runway of Varanasi airport. According to eyewitnesses, a passenger named Mohammad Adnan, 26, suddenly got up from his seat and headed straight towards the emergency exit. As he tried to pull the gate lever, passengers sitting nearby started screaming in panic. Hearing the noise, the crew members immediately ran and tried to stop him. Keeping safety at the top, the pilot immediately put the plane back in the air (Go-around). Only after circling in the sky for some time and the situation inside becoming completely normal, the plane was able to land safely again.
'I was under the influence of a ghost...' The accused's plea surprised even the police
As soon as the plane landed on the runway, CISF personnel took the accused passenger into custody and handed him over to the Phulpur police. Phulpur police station in-charge Atul Singh said that the arrested youth, Mohammad Adnan, is a resident of Yusuf Pura Mohalla (South Tola) of Mau district and works as a saree weaver. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had gone to Goa by train from Mau on March 24 and was returning to Varanasi via Bengaluru on Saturday. During the initial police interrogation, this crazy youth gave a strange reason of 'ghost's shadow' being behind his actions, which even the police were baffled after hearing it.
A serious case has been filed, and preparations are underway to put him on the no-fly list
Police and security agencies are not at all believing the young man's 'ghost' story and are taking the matter very seriously. Based on the airline's written complaint, a serious case has been registered against the accused under Section 125 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (endangering the life or personal safety of others). The IB and other intelligence agencies are also rigorously interrogating the accused to uncover any larger conspiracy or suspicious motive behind this horrific incident. As a precaution, the police have also summoned the accused's family from Mau to Varanasi. In the meantime, the airline may also initiate the process of permanently blacklisting this passenger (No Fly List).
