Encounter in Udhampur: One soldier martyred as security forces battle terrorists
Udhampur (The Uttam Hindu): A joint team of the Army and police engaged in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. The terrorists opened fire during a search operation launched on Friday in the remote Dudu-Basantgarh forest area at high altitude. One soldier was seriously injured and died in hospital early Sunday.
According to officials, the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) launched a joint search operation late Friday evening in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur and the Seoj Dhar forest border in Bhaderwah, Doda. During the operation, a soldier was injured in firing by militants. The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The search for terrorists intensified.
Following the incident, the area was cordoned off and a search operation was resumed. Officials said two to three terrorists were suspected to be hiding in the forest area. Additional forces along with drones and sniffer dogs were sent from both Udhampur and Doda to search for them. The extensive search operation continued until reports last came in.
