Raipur (The Uttam Hindu): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a major action in the alleged liquor scam case of Chhattisgarh and arrested Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel. The arrest was made after a raid at Baghel's residence in Bhilai of Durg district on Friday. Bhupesh Baghel has reacted sharply to this action and termed it as revenge politics of the central government and a 'birthday gift' for his son.

According to ED sources, this arrest has been made in connection with the investigation of the alleged liquor scam of Rs 2,100 crore. The agency claims that many new evidences have emerged in the case, which point to Chaitanya's suspicious role in obtaining the scam money. On this basis, this action was taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Bhupesh Baghel fiercely attacked the central government over this arrest. He told the media, "To please their masters, Modi and Shah have sent ED to my house. But Bhupesh Baghel is not going to be afraid, we will fight for the truth."

He became emotional and said that this action was taken on his son's birthday. "No one in any democracy can give a birthday gift like Modi and Shah. I will remember this for the rest of my life."

Baghel also questioned the timing of the action. He said the raid happened just a day after the state assembly session ended and just before a planned discussion on coal projects linked to Adani. Meanwhile, as news of the arrest spread, Congress supporters gathered outside Baghel's house, due to which a large number of police forces had to be deployed.

Let us tell you that this is not the first big arrest in the investigation of the liquor scam. Earlier, many people including senior Congress leader Kawasi Lakhma, Raipur Mayor's brother Anwar Dhebar and former IAS officer Anil Tuteja have been arrested in this case.
