Fatal accident on Delhi–Mumbai expressway as pickup catches fire, three burnt alive
Alwar (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. In the Reni police station area, a pickup vehicle travelling from Delhi to Jaipur collided with a truck near channel number 131.5 on the expressway. Moments after the collision, sparks erupted and the pickup was quickly engulfed in flames, turning into a fireball.
Three people travelling in the pickup were burnt alive and died on the spot. The driver sustained severe burn injuries and was referred to Jaipur after receiving first aid. According to information, four people were inside the pickup at the time of the accident. Following the collision, the vehicle caught fire, leaving the occupants badly burnt.
On receiving information, Reni police rushed to the spot and began efforts to control the fire. A team from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also reached the scene. The injured were immediately pulled out and taken to Reni hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead. Due to his critical condition, the seriously injured driver was referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment.
The bodies of the three deceased have been kept in the mortuary at Reni hospital. Police said the identities of the victims and the injured driver have been confirmed. The deceased have been identified as Mohit from Bahadurgarh in Haryana, and Deependra and Padam from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh. The injured driver has been identified as Hanni, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana. The families of the deceased have been informed.
Preliminary information suggests that multiple vehicles may have collided, leading to the accident. However, by the time police reached the spot, only the burnt pickup vehicle was found and no other vehicle was present. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
