Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): An incident of firing targeting National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has come to light during a wedding ceremony in Jammu. Fortunately, he escaped unharmed, and a major incident was averted due to the swift action of security personnel.

According to reports, Farooq Abdullah had arrived to attend a wedding function in the family of a party worker. Surinder Choudhary was also present at the event. During the program, a man suddenly approached him from behind and attempted to fire a revolver at him.

CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced. In the video, the attacker—identified as about 70-year-old Kamal Singh Jamwal—can be seen approaching from behind and pointing a revolver. However, security personnel immediately intervened and grabbed his hand, causing the bullet to be fired into the air instead. The prompt response prevented a serious incident. Police arrested the accused on the spot.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly claimed that he had intended to kill Farooq Abdullah for nearly 20 years. Police officials said the man possessed a licensed weapon for several years. Initial investigation suggests that he is a businessman with several shops in the old city area.

The wedding function where the incident occurred was hosted by Surjit Singh, a worker of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, for his son. The accused is also believed to be a relative of the same family.
