Kolkata-Bangkok Flight Grounded: Boeing 737 Flap Issue Sparks Safety Concerns; Leave Passengers Furious
Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): There was chaos at Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday when an international flight to Bangkok was cancelled just before takeoff due to a technical fault. There were 130 passengers and seven crew members on board the plane. After this incident, the passengers created a ruckus at the airport.
Officials said that Thai Lion Air flight number SL247 was scheduled to take off from Kolkata to Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok at 2:35 am. The plane headed towards the runway on time, but then the pilot detected a technical problem in the 'flap' of the plane. Since flaps are an important part during takeoff and landing, the plane was immediately taken back to the parking bay keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.
According to officials of the Airports Authority of India, the Boeing 737 aircraft landed in Kolkata at 1:35 am on Friday night. After a long investigation, the airline decided to cancel the flight for the entire day.
As soon as the passengers got the news of the flight cancellation, they got angry. Passengers, who were upset after waiting for many hours, had a heated argument with the airline staff and expressed their displeasure. At the same time, an airline official said, "The safety of the passengers is our top priority. No risk could be taken, so a difficult decision had to be taken to cancel the flight." The airline is making alternative arrangements for the passengers.
