New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): In a move that has left many passengers stranded, a major airline has cancelled at least eight domestic and international flights, citing “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.” The cancellations follow a series of disruptions in the wake of a recent fatal crash that shook the aviation sector earlier this month.

Among the affected international flights are services between Dubai-Chennai, Delhi-Melbourne, Melbourne-Delhi, and Dubai-Hyderabad. On the domestic front, cancelled routes include Pune-Delhi, Ahmedabad-Delhi, Hyderabad-Mumbai, and Chennai-Mumbai.

The airline stated that full refunds are being processed for all impacted passengers. It is also offering complimentary rescheduling for those wishing to rebook. Ground staff have been instructed to assist passengers in arranging alternative travel plans as quickly as possible.

“We regret the inconvenience caused. Our teams are working diligently to ensure all passengers reach their destinations safely and with minimal delay,” the airline said in its official statement.

Passengers have been strongly advised to check their flight status before heading to airports. The company also noted that further delays and cancellations may occur due to continued aircraft inspections, airspace restrictions, and adverse weather conditions.

Since the June 12 plane crash, which claimed the lives of over 270 people including those on the ground, the airline has scaled down operations significantly. A voluntary safety initiative has prompted the airline to reduce its wide-body international schedule by 15 per cent until mid-July. These measures are meant to allow for thorough pre-flight safety checks and adjustments to longer flight paths necessitated by airspace restrictions. The airline reiterated that the current decisions are focused on restoring schedule stability and passenger trust, even if it means short-term disruptions.
