Fog wires Delhi airport: 129 flights cancelled, 32 trains delayed
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Dense fog has enveloped large parts of northern India, drastically reducing visibility. The fog is having the greatest impact on air traffic. Flight services at the Indira Gandhi International Airport have been severely affected since morning. According to an official, 129 flights, including several international flights, have been cancelled from Delhi Airport. The fog has also adversely affected rail services, with 32 trains running behind schedule so far.
In light of the situation, the Airports Authority of India has issued an advisory for passengers. The authority stated that flight operations may be delayed due to fog and low visibility. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines and regularly check real-time flight updates.
Operations are being carried out under CAT-3 category
Due to dense fog, road transport in the national capital has also been affected, while air quality in many areas was recorded in the very poor category. To ensure safe air traffic, Delhi airport is being operated under CAT-3 category, under which special technical precautions are taken during landing and take-off. According to flight tracking data, flights of almost all major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air were delayed.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is little chance of relief from the fog for the next few hours. Therefore, travelers have been urged to arrive at the airport with extra time and to check their flight status before traveling.
