Gang-Rape Nightmare: 20-Year-Old Gang-Raped by 10 Men in Front of Boyfriend

Gopalpur (The Uttam Hindu): A 20-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by about 10 people at a secluded spot on the Gopalpur beach, a famous tourist destination in Odisha, police said. A case was registered at the Gopalpur police station after an FIR was lodged on Monday by a graduate student of a private college here.

According to the police, the girl lived in a private mess with three other women and on Sunday, on the occasion of Raja Utsav, she had gone to the beach with her classmate and boyfriend.

In her complaint, the girl said that they were sitting at a secluded spot when a group of 10 men came to them on 3 motorcycles and grabbed her boyfriend, after which they took turns to rape her. The group allegedly started clicking photos of the couple and threatened to leak them.

Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Saravana Vivek M said that at least seven people have been detained for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the crime. The SP along with other senior police officials reached the spot for investigation. The SP said, "All those detained are adults and we are questioning them on various points."

Another senior police official said the detainees were not locals and had come to the beach on the occasion of Raja Utsav. Police said the victim and the detainees would be subjected to medical tests as part of the investigation.
