New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Like AC and other things, now your gas stove will also have a star rating. That means you will be able to buy a gas stove by looking at its 3 star, 4 star rating. Stoves without star rating will no longer be sold.

The central government has made star rating mandatory for LPG gas stoves by changing the rules. The central government has decided to make energy efficiency standards mandatory for gas stoves. That is, just like ACs have star ratings, gas stoves will also have star ratings. The central government has decided to implement it from January 1, 2026. The government has issued a notification by issuing an order under the Energy Conservation Act 2001. The government argues that it is necessary to show energy efficiency in gas stoves as well. Information about energy consumption standards should be on the stove. The government has said that all LPG stoves used in India, whether imported or made in India, will have to follow the thermal efficiency standard of ISI 4246. The government has taken this decision on the recommendations of BEE i.e. Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

This rating has been fixed to show the energy efficiency of stoves used in homes. After this decision, all LPG stoves will have a star rating mark, which will show their energy performance. The rating will be different for different stove models. By looking at the rating, people will be able to decide how the energy consumption and performance of that stove is. This rating will be for the first two years i.e. from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028, later it can be extended.
