Govt gives IndiGo ultimatum: Refund passengers by Dec 7, 8 pm or face action
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amidst the ongoing operational crisis at IndiGo Airlines across the country and widespread anger among passengers, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has now taken a tough stand. The Ministry has issued a stern ultimatum to the airline, clearly directing that pending refunds for all affected passengers be processed by 8 pm on Sunday, December 7th. The government has clearly warned that if passengers' money is not refunded within the stipulated timeframe, direct and strict regulatory action will be taken against the airline.
The Ministry has provided significant relief to passengers, stating that those whose flights have been canceled or disrupted will not be charged any rescheduling fees for ticket changes. To address the crisis, IndiGo has been ordered to immediately establish a "Special Passenger Support and Refund Cell." This special cell will not simply wait for complaints but will actively contact affected passengers and facilitate rebookings, refunds, or other travel arrangements, eliminating the need for rescheduled passengers.
The ministry has also issued strict instructions regarding the chaos surrounding baggage at airports. According to the order, mishandled baggage, i.e., luggage that has not reached passengers, has been mandated to be delivered to their homes within 48 hours. The ministry has made it clear to airline management that passenger convenience and operational stability must be the top priority during the current crisis, and any negligence in this regard will no longer be tolerated.
