In obsession to become a doctor, student crosses all limits, cuts off his own leg to claim disability quota for MBBS
Jaunpur (The Uttam Hindu): It is often said that when obsession crosses limits, it turns into madness and can prove destructive. A shocking case from Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh has brought this saying to life. Frustrated after repeated failures in the NEET examination and driven by an extreme desire to become a doctor, a student adopted a horrifying shortcut. In an attempt to secure admission under the disability quota for MBBS, the student allegedly cut off his own foot. However, his plan failed during police investigation, and he is now facing not only medical treatment but also legal action.
Conspiracy and attempt to mislead police
The incident took place in Khalilpur village under Line Bazaar police station limits. On the morning of January 18, the student’s brother Akash Bhaskar informed the police that unknown miscreants had entered their under-construction house on the night of January 17, assaulted his brother Suraj Bhaskar (aged around 24–25), and chopped off his foot. Considering the seriousness of the complaint, police registered a case and immediately began an investigation.
Diary and mobile phone revealed the truth
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Srivastava, the investigation was handed over to CO City Goldy Gupta. During questioning, police noticed several contradictions in Suraj’s statements, which raised suspicion. Technical investigation was carried out, including mobile phone analysis, which revealed contact with a young woman and further strengthened doubts. The biggest breakthrough came from Suraj’s personal diary, where he had written a firm resolve to become an MBBS doctor by 2026 at any cost.
Horrifying shortcut for reservation benefit
Under strict interrogation and based on collected evidence, police uncovered the truth. Investigation revealed that Suraj had failed the NEET exam twice. Finding the regular path to becoming a doctor difficult, he planned to misuse the disability reservation quota. In a shocking act, he allegedly cut off his own foot to qualify as a disabled candidate and later fabricated a false story of an attack by unknown criminals to mislead the police.
Hospital treatment and legal action ahead
According to Line Bazaar SHO Satish Singh, the accused student is currently undergoing treatment at Parth Hospital in the city. Police have stated that strict legal action will be taken against him for self-harm and providing false information to the police. The wrong path chosen in desperation to become a doctor has now placed the student’s future in serious trouble.
