Big milestone: India successfully conducts weapon test of air defence system
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has achieved a major milestone by successfully testing the Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IAWS). This test has proved to take India's air defense system and capability to a new era. According to experts, this achievement puts India in the category of select countries that have a modern, indigenous and multi-layered air defense system. IAWS is a multi-layered air defense system that includes a fully indigenous Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM), Advanced Very Short Range Air Defense System missiles and a high-power laser-based directed energy weapon.
On this important test, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “I congratulate DRDO, Indian Armed Forces and the industry for the successful development of IAWS. This unique flight test establishes our country's multi-layered air defence capability. It will strengthen the security of important places and make the country more robust against enemy air threats.”
Giving information on Sunday morning, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully conducted the first flight test of this integrated air defense weapon system off the Odisha coast at around 12:30 pm on August 23. Congratulating on this achievement, he said that DRDO, Indian Armed Forces and the industry together have given new strength to the country's security capability.
It is worth noting that this test based on indigenous technology has been done by DRDO. Actually IAWS is a multi-level air defense system, which has been developed completely with indigenous technology. It includes Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile. This missile is capable of targeting enemy fighter planes and missiles at medium range. Apart from this, the Advanced Very Short Range Air Defense System installed in it has the ability to instantly disable air threats coming at low altitude such as drones, helicopters and fighter jets.
That is, with this air defense system of India, enemy fighter planes, any type of drone attack, helicopter attack and any other type of air attack can not only be neutralized, but these weapons of the enemy will be shot down in the air itself. Its weapons are equipped with directed energy weapons. This high-power laser-based weapon is capable of changing the direction of modern warfare and can destroy enemy air targets in the blink of an eye.
This flight test has established India's multi-layered air defense capability. This system is capable of dealing with any air threat. According to experts, whether it is a fighter jet, drone, helicopter, or cruise missile, this Indian air defense system will be able to stop all at different levels. This has given new strength to the country's security. The government and the defense establishment have congratulated DRDO, Indian Armed Forces and the industry on this success.
This system will now play an important role in protecting the country's important military and industrial establishments from enemy air attacks. With this unique successful test, India is not only strengthening its defense capability but has also taken a big step towards indigenization in the defense sector under the Self-reliant India campaign.
It is worth noting that this week India has also successfully tested its state-of-the-art medium-range ballistic missile 'Agni-5'. This test is a major breakthrough in the missile capability of the country. The 'Agni-5' ballistic missile was tested from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha. According to the Defense Ministry, in this test the ballistic missile has successfully verified all its operational and technical parameters. After this test, India's power in the missile sector has increased tremendously.
