India issues advisory for citizens stranded in Iran, urges citizens to leave immediately amid rising tensions
The Indian Embassy in Tehran has shared emergency contact numbers and an email ID for citizens to reach out for assistance
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid the ongoing intense tensions between the United States and Iran, US President Donald Trump has announced a 14-day ceasefire. Following this announcement, the entire world breathed a sigh of relief, hoping that the Middle East crisis would finally be resolved and the two countries would reach a peaceful solution through dialogue. However, amidst this hope for peace, a move by the Indian government has raised new concerns. India has issued a strict new advisory for its citizens living in Iran, directing them to leave Iran as soon as possible. This move by India has raised the question whether the situation could become even more dire after the 14-day ceasefire.
The embassy's strict warning: Do not approach the international border without prior permission
On Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Iran issued a post on the social media platform 'X', appealing to Indians stranded there to leave the war-torn country as soon as possible. The Embassy requested citizens to use only the routes recommended for safe evacuation. The post strictly instructed citizens not to approach any international border without prior consultation with the Embassy. To assist in any emergency, the Embassy also shared its emergency contact numbers (+989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359) and email ID (cons.tehran@mea.gov.in) so that citizens can contact immediately.
The threat of 'destruction of civilization' loomed on Tuesday night
This new advisory comes just hours after the ceasefire was announced between the US and Iran. Earlier on Tuesday evening, the Indian Embassy issued an advisory instructing its citizens to remain indoors for the next 48 hours. At that time, Indians were urged to stay away from military installations, power supply systems, and the upper floors of multi-story buildings. This dire situation arose after US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran to lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned that if Iran failed to do so by 8 p.m. Eastern Time (5:30 a.m. Indian time on Wednesday), "the entire civilization will be destroyed tonight." Although a temporary ceasefire has now been established, India's latest advisory makes it clear that the situation in Iran is still not completely safe.
