New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With the threat of war intensifying between Iran and the United States, the Indian government has moved into full alert mode. In view of possible US air strikes and rapidly deteriorating conditions, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged all Indian nationals to leave Iran at the earliest. Meanwhile, the process of evacuating Indians has begun. On Friday, a special flight carrying around 300 Indians will arrive in Delhi, bringing major relief to those stranded in the conflict zone.

Rescue planned through charter flights

According to sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, the situation in Iran remains extremely sensitive due to growing war fears. Tehran had temporarily closed its airspace for commercial flights, creating additional challenges for evacuation efforts. Despite this, the Indian government is in constant touch with multiple airlines to ensure the safe return of its citizens. Along with regular flights, special chartered aircraft are also being arranged to evacuate Indians. Officials said that given the rising uncertainty, bringing citizens back at the earliest is the safest option.

Owaisi raises concern for Indian students

Amid the crisis, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the government to intervene urgently. He stated that nearly 5,000 Indian students are currently in Iran, many of them studying at Shahid Beheshti University. Owaisi said that families of 70 to 80 students have approached him seeking help. Several students come from financially weak backgrounds and do not have the money to buy return tickets, leaving them extremely distressed. He appealed to the government to bring these students back at government expense.

Safety of 10,000 Indians a top priority

Official estimates suggest that around 10,000 Indian nationals are living in Iran. Ensuring their safety has become a major concern for the Indian government amid rising tensions. Authorities have reiterated that the government is committed to bringing every Indian citizen home safely, and the arrival of the first evacuation flight marks the beginning of this rescue operation. More flights are expected in the coming days to evacuate the remaining Indians.
