New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- India on Wednesday successfully test fired its state-of-the-art medium-range ballistic missile 'Agni-5'. This test is a major breakthrough in the country's missile capability. The 'Agni-5' ballistic missile was tested from Odisha's Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. This test was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command. According to the Defense Ministry, in this test, the ballistic missile has successfully verified all its operational and technical parameters.

According to the Ministry of Defense, in this launch, all aspects of the 'Agni-5' missile such as guidance system, propulsion, stage separation, and terminal accuracy were tested and certified. This test also proved that India's strategic forces are capable of launching this missile even with a short preparation time. Talking about the main features of 'Agni-5', it is a medium-range ballistic missile. Its range is more than 5,000 kilometers. That is, this missile is capable of hitting targets up to this distance. Talking about technology, it is equipped with modern navigation, guidance and re-entry system. India is continuously increasing the capability, technology and firepower of 'Agni-5'.

This missile is capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional (non-nuclear) warheads. The great thing is that it can be launched from a road-mobile launcher. The 'Agni-5' ballistic missile is based on indigenous technology. It has been developed by DRDO. The successful test of 'Agni-5' reaffirms India's commitment to credible minimum deterrence and the declared nuclear policy of 'no first use'. According to experts, its reach extends to the entire Asian continent and parts of Europe, which gives unprecedented strength to India's strategic power. During the test, ships, radars and telemetry stations deployed in the sea assessed the missile's flight in real time. This made in-depth analysis of all technical data possible. It is worth noting that the Agni series is the mainstay of India's nuclear-capable missiles. Its first version, i.e. Agni-1, had a strike range of 700 km. India has Agni-2 with a range of 2,000 km, Agni-3 with a range of 3,500 km and Agni-4 with a range of over 4,000 km. –
